Exponent's Website Earns Top Prize in Journalism Contest
When it comes to winning awards, the Jewish Exponent is on a roll, with the most recent accolades arriving from the Society of Professional Journalists' Keystone Chapter and the American Jewish Press Association.
The SPJ awarded the Exponent first place for best use of the web for non-daily publications in Pennsylvania. In the national AJPA’s Simon Rockower Awards for Excellence in Jewish Journalism, the paper won first place for overall graphic design, which is led by Julia Elkin with assistance from Grace Jones and Delores Michaels. It also won second place for feature writing for former reporter Bryan Schwartzman’s “Chabad Influence” story in Inside, the Exponent's quarterly magazine.
The three honors come hot on the heels of an award for best niche newspaper in the state by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. All of the awards honored work done in 2013.
The SPJ Keystone Chapter’s annual Spotlight Contest singled out the Exponent's website for its "fun, clean, easy-to-navigate design."
“We are honored to be recognized statewide and nationally for the work we are doing,” said executive editor Lisa Hostein. “The awards show that our efforts to reach a broader audience through our print and digital platforms are getting noticed. With our new mobile version of jewishexponent.com and our soon-to-be released app, we are rapidly becoming the 'go-to' site for Jewish Philadelphia.”
