Some 500 people of all ages turned out for an inspiring evening celebrating leadership and the responsibilities and joys of being a part of our Greater Philadelphia Jewish community. Federation’s Main Event, which benefits the myriad of programs and services funded by its Community Campaign, was held on Nov. 5 at the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue.

Everyone who attended was treated to a premiere screening of a video that paid tribute to the leadership and legacy of 15 of Federation’s past presidents. The performance by comedian and economist Ben Stein left audience members laughing and kvelling about their Jewish communal involvement.

From the very start, Stein made quite clear his personal status as a “member of the tribe.” “I was born a Jew, I live my life as a Jew, I will die as a Jew … and I am proud to perform for an audience of Jewish men and women,” he said.

Sara and Jay Minkoff and Ellyn Golder Saft and Stephen Saft were Main Event co-chairs. Vice chairs were Beth and David Blum, Caroline and Keith Joffe, Sharon and Paul Kaliner, Arlyn and Robert Landow, Sara and Adam Laver, Joseph Levine, Katie Greenbaum and Philip Neff, and Marlene and Norman Zarwin.
