February 21 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts visits Hazak. We will welcome Abby King from PAFA at 1 p.m. at Temple Beth Sholom 1901 Kresson Road, Cherry Hill, N.J.
King will guide us through the museum’s current exhibition, “Make Me a Summary of the World,” which highlights artist Rina Banerjee. Hazak’s program is open to all. Refreshments will be served. Free to Hazak members, $10 to nonmembers.
“Rina Banerjee: Make Me a Summary of the World” is the first in-depth exploration of the contemporary practice of artistBanerjee, co-organized by PAFA and the San José Museum of Art (SJMA).
“Banerjee’s installations are made from materials sourced throughout the world, her works investigate the splintered experiences of identity, tradition, and culture, prevalent in diasporic communities. Using a variety of materials ranging from African tribal jewelry to colorful feathers, light bulbs, and Murano glass, Banerjee’s art celebrates diversity at the material level. These sensuous assemblages present themselves simultaneously as familiar and unfamiliar, thriving on tensions between visual cultures and raising questions about exoticism, cultural appropriation, globalization, and feminism.” (PAFA)
