24 DAYS: PHILADELPHIA PREMIERE

Director: Alexandre Arcady

Genre: Narrative Feature

France | 2014 | 110 min

Language: French with English Subtitles

Based on the controversial case that shook Paris in 2006, this powerful French thriller is taut and suspenseful even for those who know the outcome of the story. Ilan Halimi, a young Parisian Jew, is abducted and sequestered. Convinced that all Jews have money, the "Gang of Barbarians" responsible for his kidnapping believe that a large ransom will be paid in exchange for Halimi's freedom. Thus begins an intense police procedural that brilliantly captures the frustration of the Halimi family, the investigators, and the criminals, as the story unfolds over 24 harrowing days. The negotiations between Ilan's father and the kidnappers are gripping, but so, too, are the efforts of Ilan's mother, Ruth, to rescue her son. 24 DAYS is a provocative film that sheds light on contemporary European anti-Semitism.

Special Event: Post-Film Reception at Positano Coast (212 Walnut St.)
