One event on March 16, 2019 at 9:00 am
Congregation Mikveh Israel and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia invite you to join us on Shabbat Vayikra/Zachor when we present an exciting program of Sephardic Andalusian Music. This special event takes place at the synagogue, 44 N Fourth St., Philadelphia.
Be here Friday at 5:45 p.m., one hour before services begin, for a recital by the three musicians — Shmuel Elbaz, Yoram Azulay and Moshe Barsheshset. They will present a program about the rich history and Jewish heritage of Andalusian music and the special instruments used. The program includes piyyutim, special Jewish liturgical poems. All three musicians are affiliated with the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra in Israel.
Following the program, there will be a regular Shabbat service at 6:45 p.m. after which a special Moroccan dinner will be served. Reservations are required.
On Saturday, the event continues, with services beginning at 9 a.m. followed by a second delicious Moroccan lunch, during which the three musicians will speak. Again, reservations are required for lunch.
Call the synagogue office at 215-922-5446 to make your reservations. Our supervision for our Shabbat meals is under Keystone -K.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Mikveh Israel for this very special event.
