A small group of activists recognized that our Jewish community's progressive voice had become quiet on important domestic policy issues. We formed an action organization for positive change, and evolved into a vibrant agency for social action.
JSPAN (Jewish Social Policy Action Network) will present its 2014 Social Justice Award to Dr. Maureen Pelta, and her husband, Attorney Alan Feldman.
Dr. Maureen Pelta, Chair of Liberal Arts and esteemed Professor of Art History at Moore College of Art and Design, has generously contributed her expertise for many decades as volunteer Chair of the annual Mordechai Anielewicz Creative Arts Competition on the Holocaust. Held by the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, the competition encourages artistic expression by middle and high school students studying the Holocaust.
Attorney Alan Feldman is Managing Partner of the Feldman Shepherd law firm and former Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association. During his tenure as Chancellor in 2006, he introduced the "Raising the Bar" campaign which continues to raise substantial funds to help provide access to justice through free legal services to the needy in our community.
