Evelyn Saltz, 98, Dropsie Activist

Evelyn Saltz, 98, died June 29 at Saunders House in Wynne­wood.

A graduate of Temple University, Saltz was a longtime communal activist. Indeed, Saltz and her late husband, Joseph B. Saltz, collaborated on Jewish community projects throughout their married lives.

Evelyn Saltz co-founded the Women's Auxiliary of Dropsie University when Joseph served as secretary of the university. Her group raised funds for the preservation of antique Jewish books and manuscripts from Russia, now in the possession of the University of Pennsylvania.

The former Evelyn Karmatz, she is survived by a daughter, Ellen Haupt; sons Marc Saltz and David Saltz; and four grandchildren.

She was the mother of the late Stephen T. Saltz.
