Donald Korson, son of the late David and Sarah Gross Korson of Philadelphia, died on December 13, 2013, after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. A graduate of Olney High School in Philadelphia, Mr. Korson attended Penn State University and was a Korean War veteran. He spent most of his working life as a distributor of plastic tubing to the Navy. A resident of Upper Moreland Twp for 55 years, Mr. Korson was a charter member of the Upper Moreland Swim Club, and an volunteer and member of the Pennypack Ecological Trust of Huntington Valley. An avid bicycle rider, Mr. Korson was a past president of the Central Bucks Bicycle Club and served as an advisor on the executive board. During one of the many bicycle trips, Mr. Korson fell in love with Nova Scotia and he and his wife, Betty-Jeanne, built the log cabin of their dreams and spent every summer and fall of the past 15 years in their Cape Breton home. He joined Congregation Sons of Israel in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and as a member, observed the High Holidays and Succoth in Canada. He was also a member of the Yiddish Book Center of Amherst, MA. and joined B'nai Brith International. Besides his wife of 61 years, Betty-Jeanne Yorshis Korson, he is survived by his daughters, Lise May Korson (Robert Baron) of Brooklyn, NY, and Andrea Joy Korson of Pembroke, NH, a son Philip of Glenside, PA and a granddaughter, Violet Baron of Bryn Mawr College (class of 2014). He is also survived by a sister Ruth Korson Gardiner, of Portland, OR. He was pre-deceased by a brother Dr. Roy Korson, Professor emeritus, UVM Medical School of Burlington, VT and a sister June of Martha's Vineyard, MA.
