Leon J. Simkins, age 89, of Bal Harbour Fl. and Phila., PA. passed away peacefully on August 2, 2017. Leon was porn in Phila., to Samuel and Dorothy Simkins on December 15, 1927. A graduate of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Lee was chairman and president of Simkins Industries, Inc., a family-owned company founded in 1901 that pioneered the manufacturing of recycled folding cartons and paperboard products. Lee actively participated in funding medical research. Lee was a long-time member of the Board of Governors of the Diabetes Research Institute and the Research Tower in Miami is named after him. He donated many millions of dollars to this and other hospitals. He is survived by his wife Serena; his children Albert,Ron, Michelle, David and Michael; 27 grandchildren as well as his brother Morton and his sister Vivian Lasko and several nieces and nephews.
