Day School Grad Scores a Rhodes
David Carel, a 2009 graduate of Akiba Hebrew Academy in his senior year at Yale University, has been selected as a 2013 Rhodes Scholar. Carel is one of 32 Rhodes Scholars chosen nationally.
At Yale, Carel is working on a degree in economics. As a Yale Global Health Initiative Fellow, he has headed projects targeting HIV/AIDS educational programs to susceptible youngsters in the Kwazulu-Natel section of South Africa.
Carel is fluent in Zulu and Hebrew, and, perhaps unsurprisingly, also teaches Israel dance at school, where he is first drummer for a West African dance ensemble.
