Some 500 people of all ages turned out for an inspiring evening celebrating leadership and the responsibilities and joys of being a part of our Greater Phila­delphia Jewish community.

On March 25, 1957, the board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, then known as the Federation of Jewish Agencies, established the Myer Feinstein Award. This award was created to make it possible for two young men to attend the General Assembly (G.A.) each year and be a part of this in-gathering of Jewish leaders throughout North America.

Federation’s Ambassadors’ Dinner, which honors our community’s most philanthropic men and women, was held on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at a private home in Center City. Carole Solomon, a respected Jewish communal leader on the local and global scene, addressed the challenges of building a vital and vibrant Jewish community in Philadelphia, in Israel and around the world.

When North American Federations convene for their General Assembly in Jerusalem next week, CEO Jerry Silverman insists it's going to be different from past gatherings. He says that this time, it’s not going to be just talking. There’s going to be listening and debating — and, eventually, action.
