Neta Burshstein has recently arrived in Philadelphia from Jerusalem to help strengthen Jewish identity and connection to Israel throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Center for Israel and Overseas welcomes Burshstein as the community’s new shlichah , the Hebrew word for emissary.

Sukkot is magic. Each fall, after the solemn pageantry of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, my childhood synagogue was transformed for Sukkot. The readers’ table and the Torah scrolls remained dressed in white velvet, but the bimah came alive with colors and textures.
