Murray H. Shusterman, a prominent local attorney and philanthropist, is contributing $1 million to provide added security at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, Israel, through the construction of the Murray H. Shusterman Gate.

The gate will be located at the school’s main entrance.

In a statement, Shusterman, a BGU board member, takes note of how “BGU and much of Israel is coping despite the threat of rocket attacks, and I am very fortunate to be able to help out quickly at this crucial time. The new security entrance will protect cars and pedestrians and will enhance the architectural beauty of the BGU campus.”

Shusterman, senior counsel at Fox Rothschild LLP and a former deputy city solicitor of Philadelphia, has contributed often to the university. He has been chair of the American Associates of BGU’s Philadelphia Chapter and is now associate chair of its Mid-Atlantic Region.

With his late wife, Judith, he set up  a Career Development Chair in Microbiology at the school in addition to other major contributions.
