Members of Women of Vision, the permanent Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, celebrated their success in positively affecting the lives of women and girls at their recent spring luncheon program.

Jane Eisner, the first woman to become editor of the Forward, an influential national Jewish weekly newspaper based in New York City, spoke about the struggles and successes of women leaders in today’s Jewish world.

Eisner held a number of executive editorial and news positions at the Philadelphia Inquirer. During her 25-year tenure, she served as editorial page editor, syndicated columnist, City Hall bureau chief and foreign correspondent.

Eisner spoke about the need for women to act as a supportive sisterhood, championing the cause of promoting more qualified women to leadership positions in both the profit and nonprofit sectors and ensuring that women are paid the same salary as men with comparable job responsibilities.

The 468 members of Women of Vision function as a sisterhood, making an enormous difference in the lives of women and girls in Greater Philadelphia and in Israel. The Foundation currently has $2.1 million in funds, ensuring its continued ability to provide grants that help provide legal reform, economic security. health and well-being, education and leadership development to those who need it. The grant-making process is hands-on, collaborative and involves the entire membership.

Judith B. Ginsberg serves as Women of Vision chair. Phyllis Finkelstein and Marian Fisher are program co-chairs.
