Charles Gordon, 89, Estate Appraiser and War Veteran

Charles Gordon, 89, president and chairman of Carver W. Reed & Company, Inc., and partner of Harry Gordon & Sons, died Oct. 20. He was a resident of Bala Cynwyd.

Gordon was president of the National Loan Association, the 24 Karat Club and president of the Pennsylvania Loan Association for 30 years. During this time, he traveled throughout the United States as an estate appraiser for banks, auction houses, family groups and insurance companies.

He served as president of his high school fraternity (Kappa Alpha Tau) and graduated from Penn State University, where he was a member of Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity

He went on to serve in the Air Corps Intelligence in the Pacific Theater for three years during World War II.

He was a member of Temple Adath Israel for more than 45 years and pursued talmudic studies in his later years.

In addition, he was a charter member of White Manor Country Club, as well as a volunteer at Akiba Hebrew Academy and Ronald McDonald House.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Jeanette Bubis; daughters Nancy-Beth Gordon Sheerr and Leslie Mayer; son Tod Gordon; and seven grandchildren.
