Burt Bacharach to be honored in Philadelphia!

May 4, 2013 6:00 PM

The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia
Lifetime Achievement Award Gala
Burt Bacharach

The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, a founding resident company of The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, will host its Lifetime Achievement Award Gala on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 6 PM at The Westin Philadelphia. This year’s Gala honors one of music’s greatest contributors – Burt Bacharach. The event is black tie.

The evening’s event will include the presentation of the prestigious Annual Chamber Orchestra Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Bacharach with a mini-concert including surprise musical guests, a cocktail hour, a three-course sit-down dinner, dancing with live band, and open bar.

“I am deeply honored to accept The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia’s Lifetime Achievement Award,” remarked Burt Bacharach. “It is humbling to be recognized by such a distinguished organization for the work I have done throughout my life. For this great honor, and for my supporters who have followed me for years, I am eternally grateful.”

“It is a privilege to honor one of the world’s great musical figures,” Kenneth M. Jarin, Esq., Chairman of The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia Board of Directors commented. “Mr. Bacharach's career embodies the qualities highlighted in the Chamber Orchestra’s Lifetime Achievement Award – versatility, influence, creativity, longevity and success in music and the performing arts. His music has reached the ears and touched the hearts of millions. ”

A recipient of three Academy Awards, eight Grammys, and a Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, Burt Bacharach has been one of the most-honored and successful composers for well over half a century. His music is as diverse as his audiences, spanning generations and continents, as he is celebrated both as a pop culture icon and one of the world’s greatest contemporary composers.

Mr. Bacharach’s credits read like the world’s favorite radio stations’ playlist: “Alfie,” “Arthur’s Theme,” “Close To You,” “Do You Know The Way To San Jose,” “I Say A Little Prayer,” “I'll Never Fall In Love Again,” “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head,” “That’s What Friends Are For,” “This Guy’s In Love With You,” “Walk On By,” “What The World Needs Now Is Love,” “What’s New Pussycat,” and “Wishin' And Hopin’” are among his many hits.

“There is a very special pleasure for all of us in recognizing Burt Bacharach with the Chamber Orchestra’s Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Susan Schwartz McDonald, President of The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia Board of Directors. “Mr. Bacharach’s body of work is remarkable not only for its astonishing size and impact, but for the distinctiveness of his song-writing voice. He has given us a legacy of sophisticated song structures that transcend genre – complex and inventive as well as wonderfully hummable. The Chamber Orchestra feels truly privileged to add him to an august list of honorees who have made a worldwide difference through their music.”

Tickets, tables and sponsorships are available now through April 19, 2013. Seating is limited. Visit or call 215.545.5451 x25 for more information.
