American Jewish Committee officials Marcia Bronstein, regional director, and Fred Strober, agency president-elect, got an update on what was happening in Bulgaria during a local luncheon with Elena Poptodorova, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Bulgaria to the United States.

Bulgaria is home to about 1,000 Jews and has been considered friendly to Jews throughout history. The nation recently made headlines for announcing that it will try suspects — not yet captured — who bombed a bus last year that resulted in the deaths of five Israelis. The trial of the suspected Hezbollah members will take place next year.
