Flea market season is here! Check out this new one at the Piazza at Schmidt's.
I'm assuming you heard back in February of this year that New York real estate investor (and Ivanka Trump's husband) Jared Kushner purchased the controlling entity of the Piazza at Schmidt's, the Northern Liberties mixed-use development, from Bart Blatstein.
So, it makes sense that on June 2, Trump promoted the city of brotherly love with pictures posted to Instagram and Twitter. Her husband's new endeavor, the Brooklyn Flea at the Piazza, is basically identical to the Brooklyn Fleas in the Fort Greene and Williamsburg sections of Brooklyn. There are around 100 vendors selling antiques and repurposed furniture, collectables, vintage clothing, jewelry, art and crafts. Of course, no market is complete without food —Brooklyn Flea has trucks like Nomad Pizza, Lil' Pop Shop, Joe Coffee, The Bent Spoon and other local yummies.
A promising sign of success was the overflowing crowd of people and the "sold" stickers on big-ticket items. I scored two wooden and canvas chairs from Three Potato Four, a popular vendor who will recently closed their brick and mortar shop and will only be selling to the public at this market.
If you missed this past Sunday's flea, you missed a good one, but keep your impulse buying powder dry — Brooklyn Flea will be happening at the Piazza every Sunday throughout the summer.
