Not counting family members who tagged along for the fun, about 100 athletes, coaches and medical personnel from our region headed off to Israel this month to participate in the 19th World Maccabiah Games.

For the rest of us stuck here in sweltering Philadelphia, we've set up this blog to bring you a little of the play-by-play. In addition to posts written specifically for us from local participants such as fencing coach Marshal Davis, we'll be curating photos and reflections from others who are already blogging on their own, including Ardmore resident Jamie Chadwin, coach of the youth division basketball team; and Rydal resident Michael Monheit, coach of the futsal open division.

If you're a Philly-area athlete taking part in the games and you want to send us a post, please email Deborah Hirsch, director of digital media, at dhirsch@jewishexponent.com.

Check back for updates as the games continue through the end of the month. In the meantime, go Team USA!
