Barb Shipon, whose enduring battle against breast cancer that metastasized throughout her body caught the attention of and admiration from fans all over the world who mailed her thousands of best wishes on her 49th (and final) birthday, died Jan. 26.

A graduate of what is now Philadelphia University, she pursued a career in retail planning as well as corporate management at Kids R Us and Babies R Us. She was also very much the innovator with her wire art creations and block letter-adorned baby spoons and forks catching on among fans, who snatched them up for their homes.

She and husband, Eric, were actively involved in the Jewish community — through the Jewish Relief Agency — and the community at large (Variety Club, Make-a-Wish, among others), with Barb serving as mentor to those patients recently diagnosed with cancer.

She also was in the planning stages with others for a foundation to be known as Have a Catch for Barb — Tossing Cancer Aside (

In addition to her husband, the former Barb Goldner is survived by her mother, Sally Goldner; two daughters, Billie and Lexi; a sister, Andi Lavin; a brother, Steven Goldner; and nieces and nephews.
