Annual Dr. Raphael Rubin Memorial Concert

A Memorial Concert as a Blueprint for the Future
On Saturday night, February 9th, Kohelet Yeshiva High School will present it’s annual concert,
to pay tribute to Dr. Raphel Rubin. Dr. Rubin, a professor of Pathology at Thomas Jefferson University, succumbed to cancer in 2011. Raph, as he was fondly known, was the parent of Kohelet students, as well as an accomplished violinist who performed as a soloist and as a member of the Merion Trio. The Trio launched the first annual benefit concert for Stern Hebrew High School/Kohelet Yeshiva in 2007.
Among the talented musicians performing Febrary 9th, all of whom are connected to Raph, the evening will feature Giora Schmidt, a world famous Philadelphia born violinist, who trained under Itzhak Perlman. Other artists include Michal Schmidt, piano & cello; Gilya Hodos, piano; Meichen Liao-Barnes, violin; and Marian Concus, flute. They will be performing music by Beethoven, Schubert, Franck, and Fauré. Giora is currently on tour with Raph's violin that Rene, his wife, loaned to Giora before Raph passed.
Dr. Rene Rubin, Raph’s wife, approached the High School with a vision for this concert as a vehicle to help build an endowment for the Arts/Sciences. This concert is the perfect venue for such an endeavor in light of the vision and passion they shared as well as the commitment to help the school provide an opportunity for students to explore both of these. In fact, Raph and Rene dedicated the Kohelet Art Room in 2009 as well the Rubin Life Sciences Center in 2011.
The evening promises to be elegant and classy - a true reflection of who Raph was, and it will be an evening reminiscent of the concerts at which he and The Trio performed, but Rene also envisions this concert as a blueprint for the future. To that end, on February 9th, Kohelet Yeshiva will name the concert for perpetuity The Annual Dr. Raphael Rubin Memorial Concert.
