All About 'Birthright'
October 6, 2013 10:00 AM
A stone’s throw from where George Washington crossed the Delaware, Boston’s Birthright Israel Foundation director Scott Freidman will be sharing the story of American Jewish young adults “crossing into community involvement” in what is arguably the saving grace for the future of the American Jewish community. Friedman will be giving his first public presentation in this area at Congregation Brothers of Israel.
As the number of Jews in America has been stagnant over the last 50 years, and at least half of Jewish young adults find non-Jewish spouses, the one project that is reversing this trend with 350,000 young adults visiting Israel, is the Birthright Israel - Taglit (as it is called in Israel) project.
Birthright is the brainchild of two major Jewish philanthropists Michael Steinhardt and Charles Bronfman, who lead the American Jewish community, the Israeli government and the Jewish Agency to partner on this project, providing a resurgence of Jewish community involvement into the new millennium.
Youth, parents and community leaders in the Princeton, NJ to Greater Philadelphia corridor are invited to hear first-hand this amazing story behind the free 10-Day Israel trip for Jewish young adults, ages 18-26, on this first-time community presentation by Boston’s Birthright Foundation Director.
Bagels and spreads will be available at 9:30 a.m.
