Volunteers from three community organizations worked side by side to fulfill a mitzvah.

Members of Federation’s Renaissance Group for men and women under the age of 45 partnered with students from Temple University Hillel and young adults from The Center for Special Needs of Jewish Family and Children’s Service recently to perform a mitzvah.

They gathered at the Temple Hillel kitchen to prepare kosher soup and breakfast bags for more than 100 older adults who are served by the Klein JCC’s Cook for a Friend program.

Volunteer Emily Bernstein derived great satisfaction from her participation in the Mitzvah project. “Cook for a Friend was an unbelievable experience and was very rewarding,” Bernstein said, adding that she enjoyed working with the young people from JFCS.

“It was a very special day and it made me very happy to see the smiles on their faces once we were finished cooking!” she enthused.
