SS Guard to Go on Trial

A 94-year-old former SS guard will be tried for being complicit in the murder of hundreds of prisoners at the Stutthof Nazi concentration camp, JTA reported.

A regional court in western Germany on Sept. 28 ordered the unnamed man to be tried. The man wasn’t 21 when the murders occurred, so he will be tried before a juvenile court starting Nov. 6.

The murders occurred between 1942 and 1945 and included more than 100 Polish prisoners gassed to death on June 21 and 22, 1944. It also included “probably several hundred” Jewish prisoners who were killed between August and December 1944, according to the French news agency AFP.

Prosecutors contend the man was aware of the murders and that the guards were tied to them.

Movie About Time-Traveling Pickle Maker from Brooklyn Slated to Star Seth Rogen

Actor Seth Rogen is slated to portray a pickle maker who gets stuck inside a barrel for 100 years then deals with modern-day Brooklyn, N.Y., JTA reported.

While inside the barrel, the pickle brine preserves him, so he doesn’t age. When he gets out of the barrel, he finds his neighborhood loaded with hipsters instead of Jewish immigrants like the protagonist, who is named Herschel Greenbaum.

The untitled project is an adaption of a novella by Simon Rich titled Sell Out that The New Yorker published in 2013.

Pro-Israel Students Protest at Columbia University

Pro-Israel students at Columbia University protested the school on Oct. 4, touching upon what they called a “pervasively hostile environment” by campus anti-Israel groups, JNS.org reported.

“Our message was that we will not just allow the university’s dismissal of our claims to go by silently, and that we hold the accountable for the repeated violations against us and the followed harassment our group goes through,” said Dalia Zahger, president of the Columbia chapter of Students Supporting Israel. “Such dismissals enables this behavior.”

Those prior incidents included anti-Zionist activists surrounding and harassing five Israeli students and pro-Palestinian activists defacing materials by pro-Israel students; the latter incident included a defaced Albert Einstein poster reading, “This is what a Zionist looks like,” where the word “Zionist” was scratched out and replaced with “scientist.”

Sex Hotel in Thailand Has Nazi-Themed Room

Jewish leaders are angry about a sex hotel in Thailand that offers a popular room decorated with Nazi symbols and portraits of Adolf Hitler, JTA reported.

“This is truly awful,” said Efraim Zuroff, head of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. “It’s horrendous, absolutely disgusting. It shows a complete lack of knowledge and education about Hitler, the harm he caused and the horrifying crimes that he committed in World War II.”

“The idea that anyone can view Hitler as some kind of iconic figure worthy of decorating a hotel room with is disgusting,” said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, also of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

The room at the Villa Love Hotel in Bangkok is dubbed the “Communist” room and also includes images of a hammer and sickle, according to the British tabloid The Sun. l
