Former Israeli Knesset member Rabbi Dov Lipman addressed Lower Merion Synagogue on “Behind the Scenes in the Knesset: My Life in Israel” on May 8, telling about his life and transformation from immigrant to politician. Speaking on behalf of Nefesh B’Nefesh, the Maryland-born Lipman, who received degrees from the Yeshiva of Greater Washington and Johns Hopkins University, and later taught Judaic studies at his alma mater, renounced his U.S. citizenship to join the Israeli government.

Lipman and his family made aliyah in 2004. In 2013, he became one of 19 members of the new Yesh Atid party to win seats in the Knesset — the first American-born member in 30 years.
