On Wed., April 26 award-winning journalist and best-selling author Stephen Fried will present a workshop entitled “Open Hearts Open Minds … a Conversation about Mental Illness.” This lecture is being sponsored by the Center for Spiritual Well-being, a community project currently located at Beth Sholom Congregation.
Fried will address the challenges faced by many suffering with mental illness. He will also describe his personal struggles with mental illness and offer guidance for what faith communities can do to advocate for those suffering from mental illness and to create more inclusive communities. Fried, the former editor of Philadelphia magazine, is co-author, with Patrick Kennedy, of A Common Struggle: A Personal Journey through the Past & Future of Mental Illness and Addiction; and has written five other books including The New Rabbi.
The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Beth Sholom Congregation, 8231 Old York Road, Elkins Park. To register, visit SpiritualWell-being.org or call 215-887-1342, ext. 109.
