The office of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Rhawnhurst NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Community) has moved to a new location: 8546B Bustleton Ave., Phila., Pa., 19152. According to Brian Gralnick, the Jewish Federation’s director of social responsibility, the new location is larger, more accessible and has more parking, all of which will help even more volunteers engage in the Rhawnhurst NORC’s vital work.
The Rhawnhurst NORC is an innovative program in Northeast Philadelphia that enables adults age 60-plus, both Jewish and non-Jewish, to receive the support they need to live and ideally thrive in their homes while staying connected to the community. Historically, the Rhawnhurst NORC served older adults in the 19111, 19149 and 19152 ZIP codes. Through a generous grant from the Bernard and Etta Weinberg Fund, the Rhawnhurst NORC recently expanded its services to include the 19114, 19115 and 19116 ZIP codes as well.
The Rhawnhurst NORC provides home assessments, maintenance and repairs; chore services; transportation to Shabbat/holiday services, medical appointments and grocery shopping; monthly lunch and learns; and friendly visits and phone calls. Staff members also help clients access other critical community services like home-delivered meals and home care.
