A lion is a woman who makes a gift of $5,000 or more, in her own name, to her area’s Jewish Federation’s Annual Campaign. Lion of Judah programs exist at Jewish Federations across North America. Besides the knowledge that they’re making a difference for the community, lions enjoy benefits such as exclusive access to inspiring events featuring stimulating speakers.
Two such events are coming up:
The International Lion of Judah Conference takes place in Washington, D.C., from Sunday through Tuesday, Sept. 11 to 13. It’s an opportunity for Greater Philadelphia Lions to meet their counterparts from other communities and hear from world-class speakers on local and global Jewish issues; to experience inspiration and empowerment, learning and laughter; and to engage in tzedakah and change the face of the Jewish world.
Greater Philadelphia’s annual Lion of Judah Luncheon will be on Oct. 6 at 11:30 a.m., at the National Museum of American Jewish History, 101 South Independence Mall  East in Philadelphia. This event, chaired by Nancy Shein and Rosalie Goldberg, will feature keynote speaker Randi Zuckerberg, a marketing and internet entrepreneur, published author and television producer who, among other accomplishments, ran Facebook’s marketing for several years.
The luncheon will also celebrate the dedication of Phyllis Finkelstein to the Jewish community, presenting her with the Kipnis-Wilson/Friedland Award. “Phyllis has been involved in Women’s Philanthropy and our Jewish community for decades,” said Marni Davis, director of women’s philanthropy at the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. “She is an incredible leader and role model. I have worked with her on numerous events and I have traveled with her on many missions. She cares so much for our Jewish community and truly wants to help make our world a better place.”
Greater Philadelphia Lions contribute more than $3 million in total to the Jewish Federation every year. This powerfully conveys how important a voice, how significant an impact women can have in making the world better for the present and for generations to come.
