This month, the Kehillah of Lower Merion is offering Main Line residents an opportunity to welcome Shabbat together, on what it is hoped will be a fine spring evening.

On May 20 from 5-7 p.m., at Ashbridge Park, 1301 Montgomery Ave. in Rosemont, all are invited to relax, spend time with loved ones and neighbors, enjoy live Shabbat-themed music for all ages and picnic. (Please bring your own food, chairs or blankets; a limited number of tables will be available.)

The Kehillah of Lower Merion is part of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Neighborhood Initiative, which “fosters collaboration among neighborhood institutions by convening the community and creating an enhanced sense of Jewish community,” according to Rabbi Leah Richman, community engagement specialist at the Jewish Federation. She added: “In Lower Merion, we are hoping that by having a public space event that is musical and celebratory, we can attract a diverse cross-section of Jewish community members. There will be opportunities for people to learn about Shabbat traditions in a non-intimidating environment, and it will also be an enjoyable event for members of the Jewish community who are already knowledgeable about Shabbat.”

In the event of rain, Shabbat Across the Main Line will be held at Beth David Reform Congregation, 1130 Vaughan Lane in Gladwyne. For more information, visit jewishphilly.org/mainlineshabbat.
