The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia sends out a message on how the local Jewish community can support Israel in a time of crisis.
The following letter was released by top officials of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, which has launched a new emergency fund campaign for Israel.
Dear Community Partner:
As you are well aware, the situation in Israel is deeply troubling. Since June 30 more than 500 rockets were fired from Gaza over the Israeli population — more than 200 in the last 24 hours alone. Over 6 million Israeli citizens, 75 percentof the Israeli population, are under Hamas's rockets' fire range.* The quantity and range of the rockets is staggering. There is a constant barrage — more than one an hour — and there is little relief, especially in the South, where no one is supposed to be more than 15 seconds from a bomb shelter. According to Israeli government sources, this conflict is expected to last at least several weeks.
No one in Israel, particularly in the South, has any semblance of a normal life. Many children are traumatized.
This is unacceptable. Our Federation is compelled at this very serious time to take action. We strongly encourage you to join us in standing with our family in Israel. Our Federation is partnering with the Jewish Federations of North America to raise critically needed funds for humanitarian needs through an Israel Emergency Fund, which will help the brave men, women — and especially children — of Israel to live their day-to-day lives as securely as possible.
By making this special gift today, you are assured that you are taking the best step in supporting Israel during this extremely difficult time. With your one gift, you will transport children out of harm's way. You will provide vital trauma counseling. You will deliver food and medicine to the elderly and disabled. You will aid families being forced to spend time in bomb shelters in our Partnership Together Community of Netivot — Sedot Negev, which lies perilously close to Gaza. And a great deal more.
Please click here to make your gift now so we know that, together, we are doing everything in our power to protect our Israeli brothers and sisters.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Israel at this very challenging time, and especially with our partnership community. Federation Chief Executive Officer Naomi Adler and Chief Development Officer Len Zimmerman, who are currently in Israel with six more of our Federation's professionals and lay leaders as part of a JFNA campaign mission, are planning to travel to our partnership community on July 14 and 15, to personally assess the region's needs and to further demonstrate our solidarity at this time of crisis.
Thank you in advance for partnering with us at this critical time.
