An oral surgery professor gets an outstanding teacher award, two sisters make a list of top female lawyers and other local honors.
Dr. Elliot Hersh, a professor in the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery/pharmacology at Penn Dental Medicine, has been honored with the Senior Outstanding Teaching Award by new Penn dental grads, and presented at the school’s Senior Farewell. Hersh has been teaching at Penn for the past 26 years. Also at Penn: Jeremy Siegel, the Russell E. Palmer Professor of Finance — and a highly sought source for articles and stories about the economy — was saluted with the “Tough but We’ll Thank You in Five Years”Award by MBA Wharton graduates.
Attorneys Barbara Axelrod McFarland, in practice as Barbara Axelrod at the Beasley Firm, and her sister, Sheryl L. Axelrod of the Axelrod Firm, have made the list of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Pennsylvania, deemed so by Super Lawyers. This is the third consecutive year the sisters have achieved the honor.
Robert Jubelirer, an attorney at Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP, where he serves as partner and chair of the firm’s Government Affairs Practice Group, has been named to the board of trustees of Penn State.
David J. Margolis and Eric Marsh have been named winners of the Penn Perelman School of Medicine Leonard Berwick Memorial Teaching Award, cited as teachers who “effectively fuse basic science and clinical medicine.”
Adam Silverman has been voted in as a board member of the Montgomery County Industrial Development Authority, serving as its vice chair.
Just published: Jewish Culture in Early Modern Europe — Essays in Honor of David B. Ruderman. Ruderman is the Joseph Meyerhoff Professor of Modern Jewish History at Penn as well as the university’s Ella Darivoff Director of the Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies.
Anne Walowitz is being honored as “Woman of the Year” by the Main Line Delaware County Hadassah, of which she is treasurer and a former president.
Judge Sandra Mazer Moss, recently retired from the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, has been selected to receive the Philadelphia Bar Association’s 2014 Sandra Day O’Connor Award, with ceremonies scheduled on June 9. Among her many achievements, Moss founded the Complex Litigation Center.
