A torch-lighting ceremony and hummus-making were among the activities at the day school's Israel Independence Day celebration.
Students and staff at Barrack Hebrew Academy, a Jewish day school from grades six through 12 in Bryn Mawr, got in the festive spirit on Tuesday for their Israeli Independence Day celebrations.
Activities included a torch-lighting ceremony with honored alumni and parents of students, humus-making and festooning the entire school with blue and white streamers. There were also several students sporting Israeli flag face paintings.
Yaron Sideman, the consul general of Israel to the Mid-Atlantic region, gave the opening remarks for the ceremony — hosted by seniors Danielle Clanaman and Ofek Perez in both Hebrew and English — and a slideshow was played featuring former Barrack students who have served, or are currently serving, in the Israel Defense Forces.
