A New Jersey couple, chosen last year as Mitzvah Heroes, are wed even as they continue to battle the groom's rare bowel disease.
It’s not every couple who gets their wedding photo posted in Newsmakers. But then, Danny Bachove and Mindy Staum are no ordinary couple.
Previously designated Mitzvah Heroes by the Jewish Exponent, the two have been news even as they have made news for their fundraising. Danny is in stage 4 of a rare bowel disease; Mindy has been by his side all the way. At the end of last year, they began a new life together. Their Dec. 31 wedding ceremonies were held in Freehold, N.J. The couple resides in Marlboro, N.J.
It has been a touch-and-go health story for Bachove the past year, who had been friends with Staum since 2011. Bachove's story first came to national prominence when he and Staum were featured on The Today Show last March on a segment called “Everyone Has a Story," hosted byKathy Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.
The disease hasn't stopped the newlyweds from fundraising for such charities as the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and the National MS Society. Their dedication to these causes made them obvious choices for Mitzvah Heroes last year.
