Two synagogue Men's Clubs faced off in a "Turkey Bowl" football battle.
The Men’s Club of Beth Tikvah B’nai Jeshurun of Erdenheim took on the Men's Club of Tiferet Bet Israel of Blue Bell in a "Thanksgivukkah" football face-off at Miles Park in Lafayette Hill.
It was reportedly the concept of two Beth Tikvah Men's Club members, Jon Kanze and Joe Valentine, who put out the Turkey Bowl challenge to other synagogues in the area. Tiferet Bet Israel took the bait.
"They were the first to respond," said Michael Seeherman, Beth Tikvah Men's Club corresponding secretary, who says, overall, the game attracted about 30-some players and 25 on the sidelines.
It was a battle between the Maccabees (given the time of year) and the No Names. (Actually, Tiferet Bet Israel just didn't give its team a name.)
The winner of this first Thanksgiving/Chanukah Men's Club Championship was … no one. Each team scored four times for a tie.
"We hope to make this an annual event," said Seeherman. "And we would like to see more Men's Clubs take part."
