Taking a Run at Diagnosing Heart Conditions

Runners crossed the finish line to raise money for the Simon Fund, named after an infant who died of an undiagnosed heart ailment in 2005.

Simon Says Run — a benefit for the Simon Fund, which helps provide free heart screenings for children — brought out families for a "5K for Kids' Hearts."

Simon Sudman, the fund's namesake, passed away in 2005, just months after being born with an undiagnosed heart ailment, Long QT Syndrome. In the years since, his parents, Darren and Phyllis, and his sister, Sally, have raised huge amounts of money through events such as this race to educate the public about heart ailments and also offer free heart scrreenings targeting youngsters.
