Conservative Movement Recognizes Shuk at Adath Israel

Adath Israel's Israeli Shuk earned a big honor at last month's centennial conference of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

When it comes to marketplaces, Nancy Black and Rachel Fitoussi take the cake — also the hummus and the salads. The two women of Adath Israel co-chaired the synagogue's Israeli Shuk last year, featuring food, dancing and fun activities for kids.

In the process, they not only pleased those attending but they impressed the judges of the Schechter Award of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. The movement announced the award at its recent centennial conference in Baltimore.

Given the success of the shuk, the synagogue is reportedly planning an expanded event for next year.
