Philadelphia Folk Festival legend Gene Shay is inducted into the Walk of Fame of the Philadelphia Music Alliance.
Folkie legend Gene Shay, one of the founders of the Philadelphia Folk Festival, among many other signal musical achievements, has been inducted into the Walk of Fame of the Philadelphia Music Alliance.
Shay, a radio mainstay for decades, has had a major impact on the local music scene over the years, such as presenting Bob Dylan for the first time in Philadelphia 50 years ago. In his early days in radio, Shay conducted interviews with such luminaries as Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell and Phil Ochs. A record producer as well, Shay served as a charter member of the board of the North American Folk Alliance as well as other music groups.
