For the third consecutive year, Federation was the presenting sponsor of the Phillies’ Jewish Heritage Night at Citizens Bank Park. Hundreds of Jewish fans attended this celebration of Jewish community and great baseball on Aug. 20, as the Phillies took on the Colorado Rockies.
Federation President Sherrie Savett welcomed fans on the PhanaVision and threw out the first pitch. Nashirah — the only auditioned Jewish chorale in the Philadelphia area — sang the national anthem.
Klez with Class performed at one entrance to the ballpark and on the field, while the Odessa Klezmer Band welcomed arriving fans. Cantor David Green of Congregation Beth Or sang “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” The Major League Baseball-sanctioned yarmulkes, given free to all fans who purchased their tickets through Federation, were a big hit.
This mid-summer celebration is fast becoming a favorite community tradition, an occasion to get together and relax before the pace of daily life picks up after Labor Day with the High Holidays and the new school year.
And our entire community won, as a portion of the proceeds of tickets sold through Federation will go to Federation to help support programs that address the community’s top priorities. Thanks to everyone who joined in the fun.
