More than 2,000 people attended the "We Stand With Israel" solidarity rally on July 24 in Love Park. Organized by the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, the rally was initiated from a community-wide call for a public display of support for Israel, and its fight against the terrorist organizations Hezbollah and Hamas.
Federation's Center for Israel & Overseas co-chairs Gary Erlbaum and Scott Isdaner hosted the event. The rally focused on Israel's need to defend and protect its citizens, and acknowledged the front-line role Israel is playing in the fight against terrorism.
Jews and non-Jews stood side by side, holding signs and expressing avid support for Israel, and its response to terrorist attacks and appreciation for the U.S. government's position at the onset of the conflict — that Israel has a right and the responsibility to defend itself.
The rally further emphasized the need to help the innocent civilians who are suffering as a result of terrorist violence.
Participating organizations included: AIPAC, American Jewish Committee, American-Israel Chamber of Commerce, American Red Magen David for Israel, Anti-Defamation League, B'nai B'rith, Boys Town Jerusalem, Consulate General of Israel in Philadelphia, Hadassah of Greater Philadelphia, Hillel of Greater Philadelphia, Israel Bonds, Jewish Community Centers of Greater Philadelphia, Jewish National Fund, Philadelphia Jewish Labor Committee, PhillyIsraelim, The Union of Reform Judaism, The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, Vaad: Board of Rabbis and the local Zionist Organization of America chapter.
