Anne S. Dordick, 91, Artist and Teacher

Anne Spater Dordick, 91, an artist and teacher, died Feb. 6 at the Watermark in Center City, where she resided.

Dordick graduated with honors from the Philadelphia High School for Girls. She was awarded a full scholarship to Moore College of Art where she went on to earn a bachelor's degree in fine arts and education from the school in 1937.

Dordick dabbled in sculpture, pastels and oils, but her primary efforts were focused on using watercolors to interpret local landscapes and still life. Her work included a series of portraits done in oils of Vietnamese peasants taken from news clippings.

Her paintings were exhibited in Philadelphia galleries, and are currently hung in many homes and offices in the area.

In addition, Dordick taught art for the School District of Philadelphia, was director of arts-and-crafts at summer camps and created the first arts program for young children at Temple Adath Israel in Merion.

She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Misher; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Nathan P. Dordick.
