Louis Schwartz, 86, a retired pharmacy owner, died Jan. 13. He was a resident of Philadelphia.
A graduate of South Philadelphia High School, Schwartz earned a bachelor's degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, now the University of Sciences.
An Army veteran of World War II, Schwartz participated in the Normandy, Ardennes and Rhineland campaigns. After his discharge, he taught chemistry at Rider University in New Jersey and worked in area pharmacies until he acquired his own pharmacy in Riverdale, N.J.
Before retiring in the late 1970s, he also owned pharmacies in Haddonfield and Marlton.
Schwartz and his wife, the former Gloria Snyder, married since 1950, were longtime members of Beth Sholom Congregation in Elkins Park, and were subscribers to the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philadelphia Opera Company and the Annenberg Theater.
Joining his wife, Schwartz is survived by a daughter, Robyn Felzer; a son, Marc Schwartz; a sister, Belle Perlman; a brother, Michael Schwartz; and three grandchildren.
