Blanketing the Holocaust

A school's commemoration of Yom Hashoah covers a heinous time in history.

Patchwork for posterity — that's what students at Kosloff Torah Academy have been accumulating the past 18 months.  Julia Strassman, their visual arts teacher, headed up a a school-wide collaborative art project using quilts in  commemoration of the Holocaust using the talents annd insight of students and faculty as well.

Each participant created a unique quilt block depicting a Holocaust-related story or historical event that was personally meaningful to her. The artwork was assembled into three memorial quilts that were unveiled on April 8,  in commemoration of Yom Hashoah, with each artist contributing a  descriptive paragraph of the rendition. A catalogue featuring these narratives  juxtaposed with photographs of the quilts was produced to accompany the exhibit.
