On Sunday, May 17, Federation threw a party to celebrate Israel's 61st anniversary of independence and the centennial birthday of the founding of Tel Aviv. Nearly 5,000 people RSVPed with a resounding "yes" and flocked to Philadelphia's Penn's Landing for an afternoon of music, food and fun.
Rami Kleinstein, a multi-platinum recording artist who is often referred to as Israel's answer to singer and songwriter Billy Joel, wowed the multi-generational audience. Philadelphians now know the reason why his concerts consistently sell out throughout our Jewish homeland.
Festival Co-Chairs Phyllis Finkelstein and Marlene Green brought greetings from Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai. The two municipalities enjoy a sister-city status. Federation President Leonard Barrack and Israel Consul General Daniel Kutner welcomed the crowd. Satell Teen Fellows Emily Green and Yuval Yarden sang the national anthems of the United States and Israel.
One lucky couple won a trip to Israel for two, courtesy of El Al Israel Airlines, with a four-night stay at the five-star Inbal Jerusalem Hotel.
