Sportin’ Life Nets Honors for Team Philly

Good sports all — but then, what better way to describe the winners of the 2010 JCC Maccabi Games representing Team Philadelphia?

From Baltimore to Denver, Philadelphians raced, held court, danced, and did what they do for love on the tennis court to acclaim and accolades, capturing scores of medals in the process.

In Baltimore alone, Team Philadelphia dribbled their way to gold as the U16 Girls Basketball team, under coaches Lindsay Krasna and Andy Krasna, hit for nothing but net.

In the paint: Sydney Frank, Shelby Ginsburg, Sarah Godwin, Jacqueline Krevolin, Hannah Rose Nussbaum, Lauren Rothfeld, Molly Rubin, Sarah Sherman and Jane Smukler.

Waterworld: The swimmers came up for air with 14 gold, seven silver and three bronze medals. Alexa Epstein, Eli Avart, Greg Bricker, Oliver Goodman, Jeff Hauptschein and Daniel Krupka were guided by Lloyd Tannenbaum.

Meanwhile, U16 Girls Lacrosse crossed into the bronze: Jackie Aeronson, Samantha Bra-ver, Hannah Cutler, Amy Fink, Abigail Goldstein, Rachel Gordon, Claudia Kronfeld, Lily Kronfeld, Danielle Levin, Lauren Matt, Devon Scharf, Alexandra Silvera, Arielle Silvera and Sophia Waldstein triumphed under coach Eve Wilderman.

Further South, the Philadelphians sported a terrific showing, too. In Richmond, the U14 Boys Basketball Team No. 2, coached by Warren Blatt and Eric Josephs, made it silver with Daniel Buchnik, Adam Frankel, Mitchel Gendelman, William Kane, Austin Levin, Matthew Penecale, Lawrence Robinson, Ryan Schwartz and Eddie Weiss.

The U16 Boys Soccer Team No. 1 filled their boots with silver, as Gabriel Boni, Dylan Eiger, Jared Kimelheim, Noah Kimelheim, Zachary Kimelheim, Zachary Kratchman, Alex Lean, Alec Martucci, Mark Philipson, David Schupper and Sam Stein won for coaches Marc Swarbrick, Josh Feldman and David Stern.

It was steppin' right up in dance, with nine golds earned by Ariel Burde, Courtney Schiff, Paige Wiessman and Blake Cohen. Setting the barre high: Coaches Beth Kohler, Rachel Kohler and Rachel Lande.

Go West, young athletes — and Team Philadelphia did. The U16 Girls Soccer Team — Mikayla Beccone, Lindy Disman, Jordyn Ehrich, Jenna Kalman, Meredith Manley, Carly Scher, Jessica Shander, Elexa Sherman, Hailey Sherman and Alexa Shipon, all guided by Eric Shipon and Sarah Friedman — bronzed their boots in Denver.

Same bronze result for the U14 Boys Baseball Team. Well-grounded were Dan Borine, Connor Donovan, Jacob Goldberg, Lance Goodman, Gregory Holdsman, Seth Karpel, Zachary Kurtz, Ethan Miller, Corey Neel, Jordan Pocrass, Aaron Rawdin, Jordan Silverman, Ross Sweed and Benjamin Zeitz. The coaches were Steve Mandel and Dan Aloi.

Hoopla for the U14 Boys Basketball Team No. 1, which took gold with Zachary Greenberg, Oliver Henry, Joseph Leventhal, Jake Margulies, Jordan Mitchell, Brett Paul, Jacob Rosenberg, Bryan Rubin and Corey Sherman. Coaches were Brian Schiff and Aron Cohen.

To the swift went the gold (14), silver (13) and bronze (four) in Track and Field, thanks to Jamie Eilberg, Emily Offit, Hannah Schwartz, Brielle Stander, Alec Brand, Jarrett Gellman, Andrew Marmorstein, Spencer Reiter and Sammy Ritz, with coach Rick Lande running it all.

And what they did for love? The Tennis Team took a silver and a bronze: Emily Barkann, Adam Levi, Julian Lurie, Benjamin Plotnick, Eli Pollack, Robert Rosen, James Shecter and Ross Slutsky rushed the nets for coach Rose Weinstein.

Wait till next year? A lot of hopefuls are doing just that as the 2011 Games come to Philly for the first time in 10 years.
