The Greater Philadelphia Jewish community is invited to celebrate the launch of JRAid, a new project of the Jewish Relief Agency, powered by Jewish Federation Real Estate. JRA will collaborate with three other Jewish organizations to provide services to the community far beyond the agency's monthly food distribution program.
JRA and JFRE invite the community to the JRAid kick-off event on Sunday, Sept. 18. Families and individuals should come to the Samuel Tabas Apartments, 2101 Strahle St., between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., to help plant flowers and decorate flower pots. The apartment complex is part of Federation Housing, Inc., which, along with JEVS Human Services and JFRE, is a partner in this new venture.
You are welcome to bring your own flowers, request a packet of seeds from JRAid, or plant flowers provided at the event. If you cannot attend the community planting on Sept. 18, plants can be dropped off at the JRA warehouse, 10980 Dutton Road, during the agency's next scheduled monthly food distribution on Sunday, Sept. 11, beginning at 10 a.m., for others to plant on your behalf.
Community planting participants may also elect to make door and window cozies which will be distributed to area families during JRAid's fall winterization project on Oct. 30.
Light refreshments will be provided.
JRAid was created to better serve those who are unemployed, underemployed or disabled — individuals who are unable to properly care for themselves, their families and their homes. With fixed or limited income and scarce contact with family, seniors are especially vulnerable.
In its initial phase, JRAid will partner with JFRE, Federation Housing, Inc., and JEVS Human Services to provide home improvements and modifications. Utilizing sophisticated web-based technology, JRAid works to directly connect volunteers with opportunities to help families in need while also allowing users to customize the way they give their time and money, answering simple requests with simple solutions.
