Newsmakers the Week of Jan. 31, 2013


David Ludwig of the Curtis Institute of Music, from which he holds a doctorate and where he teaches composition, had his choral work, The New Colossus, presented at the private morning worship service attended by President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Cabinet members and other officials as well as family members held prior to the
Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 21.

They’ve got game and fame: Just named to the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame are Josh Cohen, tennis; Ellen Barkann, ice skating; Bob Brooks, basketball/baseball;
Larry Brown, basketball coach; Fred Cohen, basketball; Ron Cohen, football coach; Bonnie Kay, golf; and Marc Rayfield, media. Jed Margolis has been named recipient of the Hall’s Pillar of Achievement Award.

Devyn Rush of New Hope, the “Singing Waitress” of American Idol’s 10th season, has been named national spokesperson for Hey UGLY (Unique, Gifted, Lovable You), an anti-bullying org. Rush often performs at the national association’s events with her band while also addressing the topic of bullying.
