Do You Have a Song In Your Heart for Israel?

Musically gifted individuals of all ages are invited to compete for $500 cash prizes and the opportunity to perform on stage at Penn's Landing before thousands at the Israel 64 Independence Day celebration on Sunday, May 20, being held from noon to 5 p.m. Winners may also perform the American national anthem at Federation's 2nd annual Jewish Heritage Night at the Philadelphia Phillies in August.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia is sponsoring this "Israel: A Song in Our Hearts" contest and is soliciting entries now through April 2.

"The competition will be interactive and exciting," Federation President Sherrie Savett said, explaining that all entries will be posted on Federation's website and the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite song between April 15 and May 1.

The two or three entries receiving the highest number of votes in each category will be deemed finalists and will be notified by email during the first week in May.

All finalists must be available to perform live at the May 20 Israel 64 event between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. A panel of judges will determine the winners in the following two categories:

· Individual performers 17 and under

· Individual performers 18 and over

All entrants must live in either Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery or Philadelphia counties. Each competitor may submit one song, no longer than two minutes, in either Hebrew or English.

Israel must be mentioned favorably in song lyrics, which may not contain proselytizing or messianic messages. Text of all song lyrics must accompany entries, which may be submitted in either MP3, MP4, WMV or MPEG format.

All submissions must be accompanied by an entry form signed by the competitor(s). Competitors who are minors must have their entry forms cosigned by a parent or guardian.
