An estimated 8,000 individuals took advantage of Sunday's sunshine and spring temperatures to celebrate the 64th anniversary of Israel's independence. The Isramerica House Band and iconic Israeli folk legend Nurit Galron made Penn's Landing come alive with festive music.
Rak Dan dancers set the crowd's feet in motion with Israeli dancing. WOGL radio personalities Harvey Holliday and Tommy McCarthy served as emcees for the program that included welcoming remarks from Federation President Sherrie R. Savett and a thank you message from Israeli Consul General Daniel Kutner, who will end his three-year term this summer.
Projects like the Franklin Institute's archaeological dig, the KYW Kidscast, the giant Jerusalem mural at the Jewish Exponent booth, and Federation Early Learning Services activities for children kept the youngest festival-goers occupied while their parents and grandparents shopped at an authentic Israeli marketplace showcasing the talents of crafters and a wide variety of food vendors.
Federation is grateful for the support of Blank Rome, LLP, the Jewish Exponent, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, PECO, U.S. Security Care and the Franklin Institute.
