Sing, Spin and Let it Burn With New Chanukah Videos
The all-male a cappella group, The Maccabeats, have done it again with their catchy new Chanukah song "Burn."
While much of the attention this year has been paid to the intersection of the Jewish holiday with Thanksgiving — with a number of entertainers creating videos in honor of "Thanksgivukkah" — others have stuck to simply honoring the Festival of Lights.
Over past Chanukahs, the Maccabeats have produced original songs such as "Shine," played on club hits such as Taio Cruz's "Dynamite," and covered Matisyahu's "Miracle." The video for this year's adaptation of British singer Ellie Goulding's "Burn," shows a student gaining strength from the fire of the holiday and standing up to bullies.
Aish.com, another reliable source for new videos around Jewish holidays, produced "The Black Miracle," that features rapper Nissim Black sharing his story of moving away from crime and drugs and converting to Judaism.
KopShtick, a new face on the scene, has parodied "Jingle Bell Rock," with his new song, "Chanuka Rock." His take on part of the Chanukah story:
"We fought the Greeks and came out on top; celebrating with class and respectable cheer; we kicked their derrières."
"I got a dreidel, you know that's what I'm spinning," he raps. "Getting all the gelt, cause you know that's what I'm winning."
A group that bills itself as Jew Direction sport thick fake beards and Sacha Baron Cohen-like accents in "Chanukah Makes You Jewtiful," a parody of One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful." The song flirts with the mockery, including lyrics such as "Yeldah, you light up my menorah like nobody else, the way that you spin the dreidel when you win the gelt."
