Sachs Gift Art Museum With Major Collection
World contemporary art collectors Keith L. and Katherine Sachs of Philadelphia have gifted the Philadelphia Museum of Art with nearly 100 works, highlighted by the art of Jasper Johns and Ellsworth Kelly.
The announcement was made at the museum on Jan. 10.
The space for the donated PMA art will be named the Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Galleries, with official ceremonies scheduled for March.
The Sachs have longstanding ties to the Philadelphia museum; Keith Sachs has served as a trustee for the past 25 years. They also have been prominent supporters of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and, locally, the University of Pennsylvania. Both Penn graduates from the ’60s, the couple recently established the Sachs Professorship in Contemporary Art at the school, with a $4 million donation intended to help its associated Institute of Contemporary Art offer guest-curated exhibits. The curators are expected to have interactive study opportunities with students.
